SEMC Weekly Update Dec 1

This Sunday begins the Advent Season, a time of reflection, renewal and recognition regarding Our Lord Jesus Christ.  This week our theme is, Faith, as we learn from Matthew 1:18-25.  In addition, we also have the great privilege of witnessing and celebrating the baptism of Analise Johns!

We also welcome the Tim and Stephanie Clayton and their family. The Clayton’s will be leading us in music and sharing about how the Lord is transitioning them from pastoral ministry to a role with YWAM (Youth With a Mission).

The Jesse Tree Devotional – “The Jesse Tree” is a way of telling the story of God’s plan from the beginning of time to redeem His people by sending a Saviour.  It follows the lineage of Christ’s family and key people in the Old Testament that God uses to tell His story from Creation through Christ’s birth.  It is a countdown daily to Christmas with the telling of a story, and an ornament that acts as a symbol and visual reminder of the story.

2024 Offering EnvelopesFor those who prefer to use physical offering envelopes, envelope sets for 2024 will be available for pick-up in the church foyer during the month of December. If you do not have envelopes but would like them, please contact the church office.

2023 year-end giving – Please note that all cash and/or cheques being given for 2023 need to be dropped off to the church office by December 27th so they can be processed in this calendar year.  E-transfers will be processed on the same day they are received up to and including December 31st. Thank you for your generous giving to the work of the SEMC throughout the year.

Join us on Sunday, Dec 17th @ 4:30pm for some multi-generational Christmas fun and festivity. “A Campfire Christmas” will feature hotdogs, apple cider, hot chocolate and s’mores. We will have the chance to share some stories and Christmas memories. And of course, we will have some joyous campfire Christmas singing, led by our good friend Angela Metcalfe. Please let us know you’ll be there (and/or if you’d be willing to help serve) by notifying the office:

A special Christmas offering for Empower Ministries will be received on Sunday, December 17th during the morning worship service. This year, we will be contributing to the purchase of “mini farms” for church planting families in the country of Laos. Mini farms can include livestock such as chickens, pigs, ducks and fish. They may also include aquaponics systems, seeds and gardening equipment. We have the opportunity to bless pastors and their families with a mini farm at a cost of $350 each. All donations will be pooled together to purchase as many mini farms as possible. Please pray about how you can contribute to this exciting Christmas project.
